Open the Garage tab and tap + to add a vehicle — year, make, model, trim, mileage, VIN, and notes. Add a photo to spot it at a glance. Keep as many vehicles as you like.
2. Ask the AI Mechanic
Go to the AI Mechanic tab, pick the vehicle, and describe the job — "replace the front brake pads," "change the oil and filter," "diagnose a rough idle." You'll get an ordered, step-by-step guide with the tools, parts, estimated time, and safety notes, tailored to that exact year, make, and model. Tap Save to keep a guide, or turn it into a tracked project in one tap.
On an iPhone, iPad, or Mac with Apple Intelligence (e.g. iPhone 15 Pro or newer, or an Apple Silicon Mac), guides are generated on-device and are free. On devices without it, Premium members get the same guides generated securely in the cloud.
3. Ground guides in your own manuals (Premium)
Add your vehicle's repair manuals to its document library, then switch on “Use this vehicle's manuals” before you generate. The AI reads your PDFs on your device, finds the relevant passages, and cites the exact torque specs and procedures from your manual instead of generic guidance.
Scan for trouble codes (OBD2)
If your check-engine light is on, you can read the codes yourself with an inexpensive Wi-Fi OBD2 adapter — an ELM327-type adapter that plugs into the OBD2 port under your dash and creates its own Wi-Fi network.
Connect — plug the adapter into the OBD2 port, turn the ignition on (engine running is fine) with the car parked, then join the adapter's Wi-Fi network in Settings → Wi-Fi.
Scan — open the vehicle and tap Scan for Trouble Codes (also on the AI Mechanic tab). The app reads stored, pending, and permanent codes plus the freeze-frame snapshot — the sensor values captured when the code set. Most adapters use 192.168.0.10 on port 35000; change this under Adapter settings if yours differs. Allow Local Network access when prompted.
Diagnose — tap Save, then rejoin your normal Wi-Fi or cellular (the adapter's network has no internet), open the saved scan, and tap Ask the AI Mechanic to diagnose for the likely causes, how to confirm each, and the fix.
Clear codes — once the problem is fixed you can clear the codes and turn off the light. This also resets the emission-readiness monitors, so only clear after the repair is done (and note you may need to drive a while before an emissions test will pass).
Reading and clearing codes is free. The AI diagnosis uses the AI Mechanic (Premium, with a few free to start).
Track repairs
Any guide can become a project — a checklist you work through. Check off steps as you go, add the parts you used (with optional buy links), and attach before-and-after photos. Your projects live on each vehicle's detail screen.
Keep a service history
Each vehicle's Service History is a permanent maintenance log — separate from projects, built to be a complete record:
Log any service, including past and shop work — date, mileage, cost, parts, and whether you or a shop did it. Back-date entries to build full history.
Reminders — set the next service due by date or mileage and get a notification so you never miss an oil change, rotation, or inspection. (Allow notifications when prompted.)
Warranties — record what's covered and until when, so you always know what's still under warranty.
From a project — finished a repair? Add it to the service history in one tap.
The history view totals what you've spent per vehicle and this year.
Your document library
Every vehicle has a document library for manuals, wiring diagrams, and receipts. Import from Files or Photos, preview PDFs right in the app, and share any document with the share button. Your documents are stored on your device.
Free vs Premium
Free — your whole garage, unlimited repair projects and service history, the document library, and on-device AI guides (on Apple Intelligence devices).
Premium unlocks:
Manual-grounded guides — the AI cites your own manuals' exact specs and procedures.
Cloud AI guides — generate guides even on devices without on-device Apple Intelligence.
iCloud sync — your garage, projects, and documents follow you across your devices.
Premium is a subscription (monthly, or yearly with a free trial). Manage or cancel anytime in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Reinstalled the app? Tap Restore Purchases on the app's About screen.
Quick answers
The AI Mechanic says it's unavailable. On-device guides need an Apple Intelligence device (iPhone 15 Pro or newer, or an Apple Silicon Mac) with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. On other devices, Premium generates guides in the cloud instead.
My guide isn't using my manual. Manual-grounded guides are a Premium feature — add the manual to the vehicle's library, then enable “Use this vehicle's manuals” before generating.
The app can't find my OBD2 adapter. Join the adapter's Wi-Fi network in Settings → Wi-Fi first, allow Local Network access when prompted, and make sure the ignition is on. If your adapter uses a different address, set it under Adapter settings on the scan screen (default 192.168.0.10:35000).
The AI diagnosis won't run right after a scan. The adapter's Wi-Fi has no internet, so the cloud AI can't be reached while you're connected to it. Tap Save, rejoin your normal Wi-Fi or cellular, then open the saved scan and diagnose.
Sync isn't working. iCloud sync is a Premium feature and needs iCloud signed in on each device (Settings → [your name] → iCloud). The first sync after install can take a minute.
I'm not getting service reminders. Allow notifications for AI Certified Mechanic in Settings → Notifications, and make sure the record has a next-due date or mileage set.
Subscriptions & refunds. Manage or cancel in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. For refunds, contact Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Safety
AI-generated repair guidance can be incomplete or wrong. Always cross-check the factory service manual, use proper tools and supports, and consult a professional for anything safety-critical (brakes, steering, fuel, airbags, suspension). You are responsible for repairs you perform.
